Jordyn Princi

I’ve been interested in community and representation for a long time. It started when I was elected to my Student Representative Council in high school, and later to the Victorian Student Representative Council. At 19, I saw first-hand how an idea could become real action when I put forward a petition calling for lighting around the walking circuit at Lilydale Lake, after experiencing how unsafe it could be, particularly for women walking at night. The petition blew up overnight and grew into a proposal for solar lighting, developed with the help of a lighting and environmental company, and was ultimately adopted by Council. A few years later, the lights were installed. It showed me that when people speak up, good ideas can become real change.

My years working in real estate gave me an entirely different connection to the people of the Kinglake Ranges. I had the privilege of being welcomed into the homes and lives of people from so many different backgrounds, experiences and walks of life. Buying or selling a home is a huge life event, and being trusted to be a small part of that journey taught me a lot about people, listening, working hard and genuinely looking after others.

 

My work with Braille Tactile Signs Australia, meeting people that are blind or have low vision, deaf/hard of hearing or had diverse accessibility needs, demonstrated to me even further to the importance of accessibility and inclusion — and to how easily people with different abilities and needs can be overlooked when decisions are made.

 

Being a proud Rotarian has given me a wonderful perspective on what community can look like. I’ve been guided and supported by fellow Rotarians, heard so many incredible stories from locals, helped bring local events and initiatives to life, and experienced the joy of simply pitching in where it’s needed, no matter how big or small. At the same time, being part of Rotary has connected me to a global network of people working together to create positive change far beyond our own backyard.

 

Becoming a mum has changed my life and my priorities in ways I could never have imagined, but one thing that hasn't changed is my desire to help people and put my energy into making things better.

I’m running because I believe our community has so much to contribute, and I want to make it easier for more people to do exactly that. I want residents to have accessible ways to share their ideas, feedback and concerns, and to feel that their voices are genuinely part of the decisions that affect them. We won't always agree, but everyone deserves to be heard. My role is to listen, understand different perspectives and advocate for outcomes that serve our community.

 

My background in marketing, IT and digital gives me the opportunity to explore new ways of connecting with our community — using simple digital tools to make communication and feedback quicker and easier, while never losing the importance of face-to-face conversations, community groups, events and simply getting out and talking to people.

 

I want to bring people together, support community-led ideas, advocate for the changes we need, and think about the long-term future of our area.
